ASSIUC Independent Rockhampton & District Inc. is a community organization that was re-established in 1991. It has been an integral part of a National Body with many branches along the East Coast of Australia, fighting for the recognition of Australian South Sea Islanders. The organization has attended many meetings and conferences, including the United Nations Third Assembly in The Netherlands, and has played a significant role in the win for national recognition by the Federal Australian Government on 25 August 1994 and by the Queensland State Government on 7th September 2000. ASSIUC's aims and goals are to create, educate, and promote the Australian South Sea Islander culture.

In the early 1970s, the Rockhampton movement emerged as a voice for Australian South Sea Islanders, fighting for recognition of their people. This movement was a crucial step towards acknowledging the contributions and struggles of this community and paved the way for greater awareness and understanding of their unique history and culture. Today, we continue to honor and celebrate the legacy of the Rockhampton movement and the ongoing efforts to promote social justice and equality for all.
