In 2024, Australia will mark the 30th anniversary of the national recognition of Australian South Sea Islanders. This recognition was granted on August 25th, 1994, and will be celebrated on the same date in 2024. It is an important milestone for the community and a time to reflect on their history and contributions to Australian society.

2023 Elders' Luncheon

The Elders were treated to delish Roast Pork and Veges and Curry Chicken and Rice for lunch, together with an awesome array of desserts. Lunch and desserts were homemade by the ASSIUC Committee members.
Also present at the luncheon were special guest speakers, Amori and Ennith (from Vanuatu) funded by Pawanka. They had spent the last week attending ASSIUC Recognition week events, sharing and teaching a lot of local culture from Vanuatu. Thank you also to Christine Evans who chaperoned Amori and Ennith whilst they were in Rockhampton, and also her husband Shane and family who make this time possible.
ASSIUC's new website was also officially launched at the luncheon.

Australian South Sea Islander State Government Recognition celebrations continued with Flag Raising at Rockhampton City Council followed by an Elders' Luncheon.
Soups - Pumpkin & Pea and Ham
Main - Roast Pork with Veggies, Coconut Chicken with Rice
Dessert - Tarts, Pudding and Cake
All home made with Love
